Elephant

Learning to create elephant art using oil pastels is a vibrant and rewarding experience, especially for those exploring color and texture. Oil pastels lend themselves to rich, bold hues and can create the thick, textured skin of elephants with great depth and warmth. Beginners often start by sketching the outline of the elephant, paying attention to its unique shapes, like the curve of the trunk and large, expressive eyes. With oil pastels, blending is key; shades of gray, brown, and even hints of blue can be layered to mimic the complex skin tones of an elephant. By using different techniques like blending with fingers, layering colors, and adding highlights, artists can bring out details that capture the animal’s strength and gentle nature.

Each elephant has a unique design that demonstrates creativity with colors and patterns. The first elephant has a softer, pastel look with a textured blanket draped over its back, adding an extra layer of detail and charm. The second and third elephants feature vibrant, repeating circle patterns in hues of pink, purple, and blue, giving them a lively and playful appearance. The use of oil pastels brings out bold, opaque colors that enhance the visual appeal of these elephants, making them eye-catching and imaginative art pieces. The designs are a wonderful example of how oil pastels can be used not only for traditional drawing but also for enhancing mixed-media crafts.

Halloween Starry Night

Picture 1

In this art lesson, students used chalk pastels to create a Halloween-themed starry night scene, similar to the image provided. They began by sketching out a simple landscape, often including elements like a swirling sky, a crooked house, and a silhouetted cat. Using dark shades of chalk pastel for the night sky, students blended the colors to achieve a smooth, atmospheric background. They then added vibrant stars, a glowing moon, and whimsical details like swirling clouds and textured paths. The soft, smudged look of chalk pastels brought a dreamlike quality to the piece, while the stark contrast of black outlines emphasized the spooky, magical Halloween mood. The lesson helped students explore blending techniques and imaginative composition with pastels.

Picture 2

For this picture, students used chalk pastels to create a vivid Halloween night scene, as illustrated in the provided image. They began by outlining the key elements of the scene, such as a spooky haunted house, jack-o’-lanterns, and flying bats. Chalk pastels were then used to add vibrant colors and shading, with a focus on blending techniques to create a glowing effect around the pumpkins and soft, eerie shadows throughout the composition. The dark background contrasted with the bright, colorful details like the house windows and pumpkins, making the elements stand out. Students also learned to incorporate subtle details like bare trees and fences to enhance the haunting atmosphere, making the artwork feel like a full Halloween experience. This lesson encouraged creativity in blending colors and creating a spooky, yet playful mood using pastels.
