Sunflower & Flowers Sketch

PS&PK-

In this artwork, the colorful flowers made with textured materials encourage young learners to experiment with shapes, colors, and layering. At this age, children enjoy tearing, gluing, and arranging pieces, which helps develop fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination. They also begin to recognize patterns and contrasts, like the bright yellows and oranges against the green background. Creating flower arrangements like this allows them to express emotions, practice decision-making, and take pride in their unique creations. Most importantly, art at this stage nurtures imagination and joy in the process rather than focusing on perfection.

For children ages 6–10, art becomes a way to practice observation, patience, and technique while still encouraging creativity. In this pencil drawing of tulips in a vase, students can learn how to look closely at real objects and notice details like the curves of the petals, the veins in the leaves, and the reflection of water in the glass. At this stage, they begin to explore shading, perspective, and proportion, which helps strengthen their fine motor skills and concentration. Creating drawings like this not only builds technical ability but also teaches children to slow down, observe the world carefully, and express beauty through their own interpretation.
